The organizer of the FIA World Rallycross Championship round in the United Arab Emirates announced the cancellation of the event today (July 30) amid the ongoing Coronavirus/COVID-19 pandemic. On the Yas Marina Circuit Facebook page it reads as follows: “In light of continued global health concerns regarding COVID-19 (Coronavirus), the World Rallycross of Abu Dhabi 2020, scheduled to be hosted at Yas Marina Circuit on 30-31 October, will unfortunately not take place this year. The health and safety of everyone involved remains the priority as we navigate these unprecedented circumstances. We very much look forward to welcoming the drivers, teams, and fans to Yas Marina Circuit for this world-class event in 2021.”
Therefore the 2020 FIA World Rallycross Championship is down to 10 championship rounds spread out over 7 race weekends. The schedule now looks as this:
22.08.-23.08. – Höljesbanan – Höljes – Sweden
29.08.-30.08. – Tykkimäen Moottorirata – Kouvola – Finland
19.09.-20.09. – Biķernieki Sport Complex – Riga – Latvia
03.10.-04.10. – Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps – Francorchamps – Belgium
10.10.-11.10. – Circuito Internacional de Montalegre – Montalegre – Portugal
17.10.-18.10. – Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya – Montmeló – Spain
12.12.-13.12. – Nürburgring Müllenbachschleife – Adenau – Germany
In addition to the above, the FIA European Rallycross Championship will race at Sweden, Latvia and Belgium. The FIA European Super 1600 Rallycross Championship will see rounds in Portugal, Spain and Germany (instead of Finland as previoiusly announced) while the Projekt E Series will visit Sweden, Latvia, Belgium and Germany.
