Today (March 6) the team of Lithuanian Ernestas Staponkus revealed the long awaited name of the driver who is going to compete in the 2019 FIA World Rallycross Championship. 2018 Super1600 European champion Rokas Baciuška (19) from Lithuania will take on the wheel of the Škoda Fabia Mk3 for the upcoming 2019 season under the wings of ESmotorsport-Labas GAS. Baciuska will enter the championship as a so-called individual entry for the ten rounds and will only score points for the drivers’ championship.
Team principal Ernestas Staponkus: “We developed our car with the help of many different drivers from different categories, not only Rallycross. But at the end we decided to start with young talent from our country. Last year, Rokas Baciuška won the European Rallycross Championship in the Super1600 class. We are sure that he will be able to fight with the fastest drivers in the world this season.”
Staponkus furthermore mentioned that a second car in on the way and will be introduced during the season. Once ready, the second Fabia Mk3 will be raced by Kevin Abbring, the Dutchman who did a lot of kilometres in testing for the new team.
