Hungarian Rallycross driver Krisztián Szabó (28) will join GRX Taneco for selected events in the 2020 FIA World Rallycross Championship. Szabó, who won the European Super1600 championship back in 2016 and 2017 and debuted Supercar racing in 2018, will pilot a Hyundai i20 identical to the one of the two permanent drivers of the team Timur Timerzyanov and Niclas Grönholm. Last year, with EKS, was the first full Supercar season for Szabó that made him finish 10th in the Drivers’ standings. His 2020 campaign will start with the championship opening rounds at Höljes in Sweden in a couple of weeks time.
“2020 has come with its own challenges and I am really happy that despite everything I can be a part of the FIA World Rallycross Championship grid for multiple events this year. Even more so, I will be driving one of the best and most advanced cars in the championship, supported by a very experienced and professional team,” says Krisztián Szabó. “My main focus will be to have a consistent and competitive pace from race to race and to prove myself as a driver, who can challenge the main “players” of the sport.”
With the ongoing Coronavirus/COVID-19 pandemic the start of the 2020 season has been heavily delayed and is now scheduled to go underway on August 22-23 at Höljes (Höljesbanan) in Sweden with a double header event behind closed doors.
